Ontario Helps Re-Open Lakeridge Health Whitby Site

McGuinty Government Improves Access To Care In Durham Region

Ontario is increasing access to care for rehabilitation, dialysis and continuing care patients by investing in Lakeridge Health’s Whitby Site in Durham Region.
The province is providing a capital grant of up to $7.4 million to help re-open the Whitby site and bring services closer to home after patients were evacuated and services moved to surrounding hospitals after an electrical fire on July 2, 2007.
The funding will help reopen dialysis services in a modular unit at the Whitby site to better serve patients living with chronic kidney disease who had to travel out of town for treatment. Complex continuing care and rehabilitation patients will be able to receive care locally in Whitby again once the fire retrofit work is completed. The grant will also help to upgrade infrastructure and extend the life of the hospital building.

As part of Leon's recent 100th birthday celebrations, donations were made to local hospitals in communities across Canada.  LHWF was pleased to accept $6,000 of furniture for our patient waiting lounge in the Modular Dialysis Unit!
